crnaofca They didn't take it from here, their pattern has been there for ever. It's the other way around actually....

i thought our pattern was from brazilian site:)

but hipotetically, could they do that? i mean, find a pattern here and publish it on their site?

I finished my second Panta today. I used Lion Brand Fisherman's wool and dyed it with Kool Aid.

I sorta thought about the copyright thing a while back, but  :-Xwas hesitant to bring it up and spoil our fun.

About the copyright thing. It's tricky because of jurisdiction as the original pattern was on a Brazilian website but was translated and posted on a site that can be viewed worldwide. Additionally, the pattern was initially offered as a free pattern, so while they could sue for copyright infringement, there would be very little rewards because there was no real financial loss. The Company would most likely lose money from hiring a lawyer to issue an injunction. Plus, the pattern is easy as hell. Granted the "reasonable person" thing woudn't apply, because the average person couldn't look at it and figure out how to knit it, but any knitter who is even a little experienced could look at that one and figure it out.

It walks a thin line. While I'm very doubtful anyone here is gonna get sued or any of that, in the furture, copyright infringment something we should all be conscious of.

But that's just my interpretatin of Mass Media Law. But I'm not a lawyer, so I could be off.

It turns out it was a FREE pattern offered by Drops (though admittedly not in english). I want to say this was disovered somewhere in the middle of thread, but it's rather long to go looking for it right now as the boards seem slow.

It was translated into english by craftsters so we could all use the pattern.  Now that Drops has translated it themselves, I am pleased to be using their specific pattern.

To my knowledge, Free is still free, even in another language, so as long as you aren't selling it for personal gain, you should be fine. Smiley

Yet ANOTHER ONE!!!!! Grin

I used hand dyed cotton (Patagonia I think) and made it thinner than the original.
Excuse the aerial view...taking pictures of myself is hard.

I also used buttons instead of sewing the two ends together. This way, I can put it on without dragging it over my face, which is always good.

The buttons are a GREAT idea! I keep getting frustrated when putting mine on, because I invariably end up messing up my hair in weird ways. This is inspiration for a new one!

That looks fantastic.

I'm always amazed at how the panta looks good in any yarn.
