Can anyone help me out here? I'm curious if there are any fabric stores in the Fan or Carytown area. I just moved here and I'm looking for a store I can easily get to on my bike.

There's a place on the 700 or 800 block of Grace, near VCU, called Exile.  Mostly they have clothes, but upstairs, there is a TON of vintage fabric.  It isn't great if you're looking for lots of yardage, but if you want some really awesome remnants, you can almost always find something there.

There's a shop in Carytown near the Ukrops, called The Aquarian.  It's a really touchy-feely, new-agey hippy store, but they do have some fabric in the back.  Mostly batiks and prints with stars and moons.  At least that's what they had the last time I was there, which was a while ago, so you might want to call and ask if they still cary fabric.

Other than that, there's a Joanne's and a Hancock on Broad street, near Parham.  It's a ways out, but the bus does run up there.  Good luck!

Thanks  Smiley - Exile is just like a block away from me. I've been meaning to check it out anyway.

Also, the African shops on Grace Street have some cool fabric.

Both fabric stores are across the street from one another straight down broad st. Take the bus, should be an easy ride. It would serve you well to learn the bus system. You'd have alolt more freedom.
