chunky bead necklace

hey

this is my first time posting a finished project so bear with me!

i was inspired by all those chunky bead necklaces that are everywhere it seems and i really didn't wanna spend 45$ for one so i thought i;d try to make one. i used beads from wal-mart and some elastic cord.

ok so hope all the images show up and i'm sorry if the pics are crappy but i have no clue if i resized everything ok!

here is the necklace on me:

it was pretty easy and simple to make but i'll give ya'll the gist of it :

**first i cut 2 roughly 70" pieces of elastic cord, folded them in half and then tied an overhand knot (this made a loop for a closure) and you are left with 4 strands to string beads on

**then i started string beads on one strand and tied knots in between sections of beads, continued beading until i felt i should stop and then moved onto the next strands

**when i finished beading all the strands i took two strands and strung a big bead on the end, and then i took the other two and strung a big bead on the end as well (these are for the closure)

** and 2 hours later i had a necklace !! (it was my first beading experience and i was a little slow !)

anyways i made another single strand necklace but haven;t taken any pics yet, i wanted to see how this post turned out!

Are the beads glass? or plastic? everytime i'm in wal-mart, i see beads that i love, but they are usually plastic, and i'm afraid to make anything with them because i don't want them to look cheap, but if those are plastic, they look really good, glassy even 

anyhow, great job.

That is really pretty! I'm impressed that something so pretty started out as WalMart items. You have a tiny neck, unless it's just the picture skewing it.

That's a fantastic necklace. I love chunky stuff - I always have a problem in bead shops that I can't find anything *big* enough.
Since I've got a personal boycott against Wal-Mart, I may have to get my butt in gear and start making big beads in resin, 'cos that necklace is beautiful.

simply beautiful! i love the way the colours clash. chunky beads rule!!! good girl for wearing a plain black top with that necklace. its too cute to be overshadowed by other colours or other accessories!!

Cute cute cute!  It reminds me of a "dress up" necklace I had as a kid.
