wow thats so weird i attempted making one of those after seeing those on the web i did mine on white and made it zebra striped. but unfortunatly i hole puncched too close to the edge and in teared when it was shrinking! but yay for you.

How much does it shrink and do you just pop it in the oven?

Well, I went out and bought me a package of shrinky dinks!  As requested by pinksparklyscot, I am posting a picture of the results of my experiment. 
 
I wanted to make a name necklace for my friend (her birthday is coming up pretty soon!).  Anyhow, I must have done something wrong.  I used a blue sharpie to color the shrinky dink sheet.  After baking the shrinky dink sheet, for some reason or other, the blue ink was rubbing off.  Bad, bad, bad.    I didn't want to toss it and start over.  So, I 'sealed' the blue ink with glitter nail polish.  The end result wasn't too bad.  The name was nice and sparkly.  I think it might work out afterall.  Thanks again for the tutorial.  I can't wait to experiment with other permanent markers!

pinksparklyscot, Hmm...I guess the ink rubbing off might be due to the type of shrinky dink paper I'm using (perhaps I should have sanded the surface for better ink adhesion?) or perhaps it's just because I was a tad sharpie-happy when I colored the sheet    

Hanging the finished plastic name on the necklace was no trouble at all.  I snapped the chain in half and threaded jump rings into both ends of the pieces.  Then I slipped the jump rings through the pre-drilled holes on the plastic name.  Voila!  Done.  I can't wait to present my friend with her new name necklace!
