I wanted a fairly inexpensive name necklace as I didn't know how often I'd wear it, and I didn't want a silver or gold one either, I Had to be different. Anyways, i was browsing the Tatty Devine website and fell in love with their name necklaces, But at 25 plus p&p and having to wait for it I thought, well I've got shrinkies in my box so why not?! And after about half an hour this is what I came up with

(sorry bout the bad pic, it's half two in the morning where I am and have no patience with the camera!)

But I love it soooooo much, and it cost next to nothing so I'm well impressed, although I wish I'd used a different colour, but that was all I had at the time. I'm contemplating splitting the chain so it hangs a bit better and look better. Let me know what you think!  Cheesy

I don't know if this was posted but I have a problem. And i was just wondering when you made your necklace did it ever crinkle up in the over and go into the center and just basically rolled up. Mine has done that twice but I didn't make a name and i make it two times the size and now I don't know what i did wrong. so if you could maybe give me a few hints or help me I would be most grateful. And if you can or can't help thank you so much!

It sounds like your shrinky dink is getting stuck to itself while it's shrinking. I had a similar problem with a heart I made. I messed with it, reheating and pulling it apart and flattening, to get it to it's right shape. When I posted it and described all the hassle I had had with it, someone told me that you can stop it happening by putting your piece in a loose envelope of tin foil when you put it in the oven. I haven't tried it yet but it sounds like it might work.

Ooohh, scissorchic I like your bottom one, v nice! I really want to get inkjet stuff but nowhere wher i stay has any kind at all and the only one available in the uk online right now will cost me around 15 (about$26) including p&p for 6 sheets, waaaayyyy too expensive!  Cry

Oh the joys of a boring afternoon and google... UK you say?
How about: http://www.craftycomputerpaper.co.uk/shrink%20paper.htm
1.40 a sheet... 6 sheets + first class postage and package = 9.89

Just look at those other papers... fun fun  Grin

I would love to make one of these! I also have the problem of nowhere selling personalised stuff with my name on. Does anyone have any ideas how I could do the writing with an i?

That's one reason I've yet to make one for myself (because my name has the letter 'i' in it).  One idea I had was to do each letter in caps.  Another was to make the letters individually and somehow attach them to the necklace.  If you come up with more ideas, I'd love to hear about it!

just an idea...you could always make the letters separate and attach them with jumprings and chain?

I'm a bit late, but here is a necklace I made
It's the first bit of jewellry i made, and shrinky dinks are really fun to use. i ordered them off ebay!
i also bought the wrong size jump rings (way too small) so, it was kinda hard attaching it, but it worked out Smiley
thanks for the great tutorial!!

it says freya
i haven't added the charm yet, but i will probably make one with the left over shrinkies Smiley
