not the sort of moth you might enjoy in a sandwich

I made this hat for my sweetie.  I can't decide whether it makes him look like a Mongol Warlord or a Hershey's Kiss.

Despite the pained expression, he really does like it.

Basically, I chose a cable pattern, knit it long enough to go around his head, picked up stitches for the top and decreased, adding cables.  Here's a picture that better shows the spiralling top.

Please ignore the filthy carpet.

I think it's cool! I'm impressed by people who can do cables. It's so cute when they'll actually wear something we make for them. As far as which it looks like, I'm not sure. He doesn't look like the warlord type to me but I could be wrong. Wink

No, he's more the sweet & melty type.  But the hat's much more impressive in person.

Oh, I'm so impressed with your knitting.  (And this time I don't have to type like a pirate to tell you so.)  I really like how you've taken control in your knitting, and are making the garments that you want.

Very, very nice technique, as well as design!

Fun hat! You did an awesome job! I also love the sweater and hat you knit for your dad. I love the subtle subversiveness of it. It passes for traditional, but when you look up close you see the wacky fun details. Love it!

Thanks for all the support!  I'm thinking about writing up a tutorial/recipe for this hat, but it will probably have to wait until I can make another version for the step-by-step pics (which has to wait until I'm bored with my current projects).  Is anyone interested?

Also, can you think of a better name for this hat?  The current name was at best arbitrary and at worst a rather pathetic attempt at humor.  Plus it only works if the hat is brown.

I actually love the name.  Like your pirate gansey, it combines two contrasting ideas in such a perfect way.  Besides those Hershey kisses come in all sorts of freaky colors, nowadays.
