i made this one for my sister's friend who wore her last bag out.  its big enough to hold the essentials but not so large that you're tempted to carry around your entire world.  i really love the way the colors work together.  i love the inner calico (?). its so cute.

That is beautiful!  I love the lining fabric too!  You even added an inner zipper and a slit pocket...and  are those side pockets on the outside too?  GREATJOB

Beautifully done!  I would definitely use that bag in a heartbeat!!!  The lining is pretty and the size is just right.  You did a very professional job with it.  Nice work!!

What did you use to make it stiff?  Interfacing? Fleece?  Plastic?  All of the above?  Fusible or sewn in? I'm having trouble figuring out what I want to use for a project - that bag looks like it turned out perfectly.

thanks everyone!

you're right! there is a slit pocket on the front under the flap, two side slit pockets on the outside for pens and such, and a zipper pocket inside on the back panel.

i used fusable craft-weight interfacing. its pretty much the stiffest i could find that was still fusable.  for my larger messenger bags i ususally put a piece of shoebox weight cardboard on the bottom so the bag doesn't sag.  its def. takes a little manuvering(sp) to get it sewn together, though.
