Simplicity 4559 luau dress

I thought I would start a sew along for this one:

even though I'm still waiting for the fabric (not much longer). I can tell already that this one will need to be altered since I'm short-waisted and I'll have to figure out how to add a built in bra. Anyone want to sew along?

well, i have been waiting for my fabric to arrive off ebay for AGES and am getting impatient!
it's cute though, vintage hawaiian huts/trees in a gold colour with hot pink flowers...

however having had a closer look at the pattern, i wondered if the cotton i'd planned to use mightn't be the best choice. maybe something thinner/somewhat more synthetic might have a better twisty effect round the chest area?

what sort of fabric are you using?

Well, I was going to use fabric I already had, but a "scrunch test" determined that it would be way to wrinkly - I'd have to stand all night for it to stay looking good. So I ordered from Hawaii - www.fmart.com - crossing my fingers that it will work otherwise there is www.equilter.com for some nice cotton retro hawaiian fabric.

I REALLY want to make this dress, but alas I bought the wrong size (along with 8 other patterns) so I need to see if they'll let me exchange them at joann's for the right size.

Ok I got my fabric. I'll be wraping my head around the pattern for a few days then sewing over the weekend.
