Ok, I'm new to pattern sewing & was wondering the best way to choose a pattern since i'm kinda pear-shaped. My measurements are very odd (36-33-43) & I was wondering if anybody can tell me which of these measurements I should use to select the best fit for me. I wear a street size 12, but looking at some of the patterns, I could range anywhere from a 10 (going by bust) up to 14 or 16 (going by hips).  I'm so confused!! I really want to start making some clothes since I can't ever seem to find many RTW clothes that fit me correctly. Any suggestions would be SO appreciated! Thanks!

It'll depend on what you're making. For trousers/skirts you'll generally want to go by your hip measurement. For shirts/tops you'll want to go with your bust. With dresses,if you're pear-shaped you'll want to choose a pattern size based on your hip measurements as this is the widest part of your body.Always pick a pattern by your measurements as they never correspond to your clothing size! Hope that's helpful!
