DORMANT: Ferragamo Bag
«
on:
August 28, 2005 10:17:54 PM »
Hi - I'm new to crochet, and am trying (patiently) to figure out a pattern for the body of this bag:
Ferragamo was selling it for oh, $1400...I don't really have that much cash, so why not make it myself?
Anyone interested?
-Julia

Oh my gosh! I was just reading my lastest issue of *koff* US Weekly on the commute into work today, and that bag was featured and I was totally drooling over it!
I don't crochet, but am very eager to see how you guys put this one together!

that is a neat looking bag tho. hmmmmmm the corners....... I would say... they are crocheted separately, in a sorta circle shape? with front or back posts?

it would probably be easier to do the corners separately and sew them on, adding reinforcement to the bottom of the bag.
Anyone know what stitch is used for the corners? or the top?
The body of the bag looks like a simple sc, but i've been crocheting about a week...so i don't really know.

LOVE that bag, if you do figure out a pattern I would love to have a go at it!
It sort of looks like the main body of the bag is a single crochet but almost a diaper type shape
then a tight 2double crochet?- chain -2double crochet type thing putting the doubles in the chain spaces below (if that makes sense
vv-vv-vv-vv
v-vv-vv-vv-v
Make those in sort of squares (folded in half sort of to make the corner a triangle.)
I'm not very good at showing. I would say it is the same stitch for the top part.
Love to see it accomplished!

lovelyscrubs, that is a great idea! Here's another picture to give you an idea of the sheer size of this thing - I'm not sure i want to do it that big though!
I think its all done in one piece (see my crudely drawn design), and then the top banding is added later in the round? (I'm more a knitter, so it makes sense to me this way!)

I agree with Julsey723 - it looks like one big piece, with the main part done in dc and the corners/top in a bobble pattern. I can't tell about the pleats though - it almost looks like they're folded in when the top is sewn on, but then the top would have to be made and attached seperately. It's cute, though. It reminds me of the "fat bottom bag" found here -
http://www.skamama.com/Bags.html
, although I don't know if she's putting up a pattern for that.
