I suggest we can only use Candy Corn in this challenge...

How about a "Fall Harvest" vs "Halloween" type theme. Some folks find the celebration of Halloween to be offputting/offensive. By terming it "Fall Harvest" (or similar), those who celebrate Halloween proper would be able to participate as well as those who do not celebrate Halloween for spirtual (or other) reasons.

Some choose not to celebrate Halloween due to the origins of the holiday and because the day represents a "high holiday" for those who practice Wiccan/Pagan religions (Samhain) and Satanism.

The overarching point being:
More folks could feel free to participate if a challenge was not specifically "Halloween". If it were "Fall" or "Autumn Harvest" or similar, those who do celebrate Halloween could do Halloween-type crafts, and those who do not could do other crafts.

I'd like to see a Halloween craft challenge, but you should start another post for a Fall Holiday craft challenge and see how it does. Cheesy

While I'm a big Halloween fan, I'd be game for a fall theme to be sure everyone feels welcome to participate.  (Of course for some parts of the world, fall is a long way off...)

An excellent point, GoTo!

That had not occurred to me. The culturally sensitive adjustment to expanding the this proprosed topic to welcome all faiths seems very appropriate to me, but the geographical limitations of re-terming it "Autumn" or "Harvest" or the like escaped me!

Well, phoo.

Maybe even something that UTILIZES that point you made. Perhaps "The Many Faces of September" would be neat, as it could capture seasonal change elements from many areas of our planet.

i think a halloween theme would be fabulous! if you celebrate halloween in a religious way, you could do something around that, if you celebrate halloween in a dress up and get candy way, you could do that, or if you celebrate halloween in a "i'm never gonna grow out of my teenage goth phase" way, you could do that!

i wouldn't be into a fall/harvest thing, because that usually goes along with thanksgiving, which is a contentious topic once you start thinking about native people, europeans, "who discovered america", etc. i don't like to celebrate it personally, and i'm sure there are others who feel the same.

How about a Halloween challenge?  We could make kooky creepy stuff.  Everything would have to be entirely handmade, no store bought displays.

So what do you think?
