okay kiddies, my mom always mentions to me that a friend of hers told her about a super-fantastic fabric shop (kinda warehouse-ish like they have in the garment districts of larger cities... the kind where the fabric is just stacked from floor to ceiling and they have everything in your wildest dreams!!!!!), but she NEVER remembers to ask this friend WHERE it is again, no matter how many times i remind her.  she sorta kinda thinks it might be in the Ferndale / Royal Oak / Southfield area.

anyone know about this magical place?  or it is just a lovely fairytale, too good to be true?

Is it Haberman Fabrics in Royal Oak? I haven't been there in a long time, but they are really great.

Haberman's is supposed to be incredible, pretty much fabric-lovers paradise. If you go, you'll have to post and say how it was, i have a 15% off card for there  Grin

Eh, Habermans is fun to look at but that's pretty much it. Unless you have a lot of money lying around or are making something really fancy (bridal dresses, etc.) where you *need* super-nice fabric and are willing to pay super-high prices for it, Haberman's is a browsing store.  They have a lot of really high-end stuff, but like I said, the prices are, imo, too high. They have some of the *exact* same fabric that you can find at JoAnn's, and their base price is usually $1 - $2 dollars more per yard. The only thing I will buy at Haberman's is lining fabrics. They have a *really* nice color selection and the linings aren't too overpriced. They do also have a bunch of independent type pattern companies. I just hate how they lock their patterns up - I can never find someone to unlock it, either.

If you're in the area, though, I'd say check it out. It's fun to just spend an hour or two browsing around.

I finally went yesterday- was moderately disappointed, i had expected a bit more- although they did have a lot of very fun fabrics and a great selection of fur (which was the reason i went there, so i was quite happy. I was nearly bouncing, lol) Also their "Royal Room" had some really awesome specialty fabrics, with sparkles and sequins and sewn on flowers...
I had just expected it to be....bigger...or something.  My JoAnns has a giant selection of fabric, i think habermans may have less. BUT my JoAnns didnt have the fur i needed and habermans really did, so it's a success story after all!
