It's been a loooong time since my last project post.
I found this footstool at one of those $1 stores where they sell things for more than $1.  It was $8, but with the nicks and dents on it, I convinced them to give it to me for $6.
BEFORE:

And here's the kitschy stool I turned it into...
AFTER:

I am giving this stool to our friends' 1 year old daughter for her birthday.  Her parents had bought her a dress with the exact same fabric on it (when she was just a few months old)!  They loved that dress soo much and I thought it was a good way for them to remember that dress she has long outgrown Smiley
I also think it's cool that the women on the fabric are making a birthday cake!

How cute and cool, Firehead!!

I saw theose stools here in town and pondered purchasing one, but I didn't see a real need at the time.  Maybe I will anyway now! ^_^

That's really cute! Where did you find the fabric?

oh my gosh! that stool is TOO cute! i'm sure she will love it.

question then - so did you use the fabric from her old dress to make the stool? or did you find some of that fabulous fabric new somewhere? and if so - WHERE?!?! it is soooo awesome!

thanks for all the compliments!

i found the fabric at Hancock Fabrics.
it's made by Herman Miller (?).
i couldn't believe it when i saw it b/c it was the same like the dress. remembering how much her parents loved that dress, i knew i had to make something out of it for the baby.  soo i saved it for months until i found that stool.

thanks craftylea!  Kiss

it wasn't hard at all.  i took apart the stool from the underside.  there were only 4 screws attaching the seat to the legs.  i removed the staples that held the monkey fabric.  i stapled on the new fabric, painted stripes and polka dots on the legs (after painting 3 coats of white), then (after several coats of gloss varnish) reattached the legs to the seat with the screws.

hope that helps!

That's too good! Gahh, I should really start making something worthwhile for my room.

Thanks for the inspiration, I'm sure the little girl will adore it!
