My response to the challenge was to use the "DANGER" red and black tape (like Police Line- Do Not Cross tape only different) to crochet a "bullfighting cape".
The tape was too wide, so I unrolled it from the spool and cut in half lengthwise.  Then I ran out of DANGER tape and switched to red surveyor's tape for the finish.
I realize WHY people don't crochet with plastic tape!  Very unforgiving stuff.  I had to use PAM (registered trademark) to get the tape to quit sticking to the crochet hook (and itself), plus, the finished cape is pretty stiff.
 .... I had fun, though!

You used cooking spray on the plastic and the needles?  I never would have thought of that, but it's a great idea.

...well, I sprayed a little Pam on a paper towel and wiped down the hook when the project began to get stuck.  It might have been because the black paint (danger  danger  danger) was a different texture than the red tape it was on.
The Pam worked for like 8 stitches and then I had to re-wipe; kind of a pain, but oh well.  Maybe if I had used a metal hook I wouldn't have had the problem?
