Flower Seeds and Packet Swap

I love to garden and I know there must be some craftsters on here that do too! So who wants to organize a swap where each person harvests some seeds from a garden, whether it be your own or your mother's or your friend's garden (just make sure to get permission first!) and dry them out?  Or if you dont know anyone with a garden you can borrow seeds for you could always buy some from the store. Then you can make your very own seed packet using this template:



It is an easy think to ship in the mail, and inexpensive too. What do you think?

I'd love this idea in april or may but right now (at least where I live) most plants are dead or dying and stores don't really carry seeds anymore. Maybe where you are at it is different.

Good point! I actually live in Maine, but about right now is the time to collect seeds of of those dying plants.

That is a wonderful idea!  Yes collecting seeds would be about now here in Texas too.
Only thing though would plants in Maine work in Texas and Texas in Maine?
Some plants I grew in Calif and Michigan - I can't grow here    Too hot.

I do miss Pussy Willows and lily of the valley from Michigan.

You kown this could still work - I just like this idea - I think if we just did a bit of a on-line seach then we would know what zone our seeds would work for and label so people would know how to plant their seeds

for exp - I'm zone Zone: 7B

so if I get seeds that are only good to zone 9 insead of planting outside I could just grow them in a pot. Or if the seeds just won't work we may need to buy seeds that would work in the zone of our swap person. seeds are cheap - the main thing would be the packet that you would be sending them in.

I'm zone 4!  I still think this would be very fun, but I can't organize a swap yet because I have never participated in one. So if someone else wants to organize it and there are enough people that would like to join, then I'd be in!

this is a GREAT idea! I am a seed swapper for sure! here are the hollyhock seeds I collected and made little packets for...I gave them as extras for my other swaps...I have tons of seeds left though!

I love this idea! I had the best tomatoes this year, but forgot to save any seed. I do have a huge pile of luffa (aka: luffah, loofah, loofa, sponge gourd) seeds that I saved from some luffas that a co-worker sent home with my boyfriend. I could probably still harvest some cherry pepper seeds from the garden...

Wow those are beautiful!  I'm still on for this - I think it would be a blast - should we wait till closer to spring?
