Hello, I took a black Gap skirt and put felt flowers on it with embroidered stems. I'm very pleased with it.

But I'm noticing that the felt is getting fuzzy and a bit ratty looking. I used acrylic felt. Does wool felt stand up better?

that skirt is sooo cute!  wool felt totally stands up better to the nubbiness factor, it barely beads off at all, but you can't wash it - dry clean only.  also, the colors tend to be much more muted than the red you used.

I like to applique felt on *everything*, and I've had the "nubbiness" problem, too. Between treating it carefully and not washing it, you can do pretty well, but I recently read on these very boards a suggestion that polar fleece would be a good option, so I'm going to try that at some point. No pilling, just as easy to work with.

Love the skirt, by the way. I appliqued some felt flowers onto a skirt a few months ago, and I constanly get stopped on the street while wearing it- if only people knew that I had to do something to cover a stain that wouldn't come out! Hee. Smiley

Wow! I love those flowers Smiley They remind me a bit of Mackenzie Thorpe's artwork.

I used to work in the design department at Hanna Andersson, the company that makes the cute kids clothes, and they use polar fleece all the time for appliques, with great effect.
