Ok so I know that the sleeves are crochet, and I'm pretty sure that the body of the sweater is knit.

Here are some reference photos:

and here is the thread that got this all started:

so, who wants to join?

all right, i'm in.  unfortunately, it will be about 3 weeks before i can really get started due to the big, impending move.  but once i get unpacked, ok so who cares about unpacking everything,  once i unpack the hooks and yarn Smiley  i'll get started

don't forget to keep track of what you do so that your sleeves match!  (yes this is just a reminder to myself, who would totally forget) Smiley

good luck!  and keep us all posted with progress!

Ok, I belong to a HP costuming group on Yahoo called Madame Malkins, and a couple different ladys posted a couple different variations on the color of the sleeves Here is the first one from Eva, but it doesn't include the top semi-circle:

maroon
>light pink
>lavender/blueish
>cream/off white
>navy/dark denim
>dark olive green
>very light minty/olive green
>maroon*
>orange(kinda like orange sherbet)
>light pink*
>minty olive*
>lavender*
>minty olive*
>cream*
>orange*
>navy*
>mint*
>orange*
>maroon*
>pink*
>navy*
>mint*
>cream*
>maroon*
>orange*
>maroon*
>pink*
>cream*
>orange*
>lavender*

And here is the second one from Jacquelyn with the semi-circle listed at the bottom:

maroon
pink
periwinkle blue
khaki
navy
sage green
seafoam green
maroon
orange
pink
seafoam green
periwinkle blue
sage green
seafoam green
khaki
orange (darker than others? or a trick of the light?)
navy
seafoam green
orange
maroon
pink
navy
sage green
seafoam green
maroon
orange
maroon
pink
khaki
orange (the darker one again?)
periwinkle blue

The circle at the shoulder (center first):

sage green
seafoam green
pink
navy
seafoam green
orange
seafoam green
maroon
navy

I think I'm going to go with the second one, but I'm not sure what kind of yarn I'm going to use yet, and I still haven't decided on what pattern I'm going to use for the body, lots of decisions still to be made!

I'm going to try it with my scraps. It may end up being more the spirit than the letter.
I'll probably go get a store-bought cardigan (sorry, I can only knit a straight line) and hack off the sleeves and try to attach the Molly sleeves to it.
Don't know when I'll get to start, but I hope to finish by the movie, which is middle/end of November?
The stitches all seem to be various shell patterns, right?
I can't wait to see what all we come up with!

I love this sweater! I don't crochet, and would never wear it, but when I watched the movie today (inspiration while I knit my Ravenclaw scarf) I saw that and went "WOW!"
So crochet the heck out of it, ladies, and post pics - I am dying to see!! Smiley

I think those sleeves are gorgeous!!! I would love to make something like that, but I'm a beginner crocheter and don't have a clue as to how to do it or look at it to figure it out. Do you have any idea of the stitches used? Thanks!!!

lol I'm SO in!  I've been wanting to give this a try for ages....have a 24h train ride coming up soon, so maybe I can have sleaves done by the end of the trip? They remind me of a peter maxx hat I made once:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v488/morgainethefae/IMGP1583.jpg I don't think I'll try for an exact copy but just add bobbles and shells where they suit.  We must all post prog. shots!!

I'm SOOOO in. It'll take me awhile, and they won't be an exact replica, but it'll be fun.
