I'm moving to Cape Breton (Sydney area) in the next few months... can someone tell me about the craft scene there?  Any classes?  Places to buy fabric?  Thanks!

I am not personally from Cape Breton, however, I have been there a few times, as well, have family who are heavily into crafting (Stained Glass, Knitting, Crochet, and Bead work.) We sometimes send up supplies, as apparently (in the Ingonish area) it is slightly more difficult to find supplies, however, when I was up there. It seemed there were a large number of stores (gift shops) which would sell work on consignment.

Sorry I am not of too much help currently. I will contact family, and get some information on places in and around sydney, that may be of some use.

I am trying to get together a group of young crafter chicks in the industrial cape breton area; that's actually how I found your post through google. I'm bookmarking this post, and you can email me at gayle_bird AT yahoo DOT com, if you're interested. I'll get in touch once we've got more information.

It's a little sparse here in terms of crafters under 50, but I know there's tons of young crafters hiding out in their basements; we're looking to get them out of the woodwork.

Hope to hear from you, Bottle!

There are tons craftsters under 50...but you have to know where to look, i have a few friends who knit/sew.  there aren't alot of places to get supplies though. lewiscraft, walmart and moraffs for yarn, and fabricville for fabric, are the only places in the sydney area.

I live near Sydney. Like jilybrat said, Fabricville, Moraffs, Walmart, there's a few other places too.

I was just by Lewiscraft in Sydney (Sydney Shopping Center) today and it looks like the store is closing. Just about everything is on sale so if you are in the area head on over!  Sad Another local store bites the dust.
