Whatever is a girl to do when her messenger bag strap rips and she doesn't feel like fixing it? Turn it into a brain protector, of course! PS: I know I'm *so* not a brain protector person.

However, some people wouldn't be into such a jaunty chapeau, but never fear! It easily becomes a basket for all your household items!

Or a retrochic cat wig!

So why a brain protector, you ask? I've wanted to use the phrase "jaunty chapeau" for about two years now. Also, who DOESN'T need a brain protector made of candy wrappers and packing tape?

Ha, update. My mom saw it sitting on the counter upside down and loved it...as a candy bowl! So she's taking it to work to put candy in. It's nice to know I didn't make something totally impractical. :-)

:-) Thanks! Yeah, it's crochetting in the round on a REALLY big hook. The circumference was just over an inch!

First, I made the Starburst wrappers into sheets using packing tape, then, I taped each sheet into a tube and cut around them like I was making t-shirt yarn. Then, I taped the ends of each "strand" together and started crochetting. I used double crochet for the entire brain protector. The big hook absolutely killed my fingers.

OH how PRETTY

I would wear this like every single day for as long as I exist! And then it would be a candy dish for generations of me after I die.

Ha, I know. But it's not the brain protector, he hates me in general. It's a eat/hate relationship, I eat him, he hates me.

This just reminded me of a project I thought of a long time ago with smartees wrappers.  I usually end up making little origami figures out of the wrappers a la Bladerunner.
