When I was there I fell in love with this little shop called L'antiga Casa Sala in central Barcelona (C/ call ?). It's a store for jewelry-crafting and beads and such. And compared to Sweden it's cheap too! Smiley

You should visit Merceria Santa Ana in Portal de l'Angel street, its a huge old shop with all kind of stuff for crafts!!  Cheesy
Also, if you have a walk in Call street, you'll find lots of small shops with beads and such stuff.
For second hand stores, just have a walk around the center of the city (esp. the Raval and the Born areas), there are thousands! Wink

I'm sooo jealous!!!  Definitely go to everything Gaudi, you will be so inspired!  There is also a really cool chocolate museum (there are 3-D scenes from Ben Hur out of chocolate!).

I definitely recommend the Gothic Quarter and the modern art museum as well.  There's a ton of graffitti around the building and out in the back- I didn't even make it into the museum!

Here's a collage I made from some free magazine pics, pamphlets, pictures, etc.  Maybe you will get some ideas...

And a detail of one of the pictures found in a free magazine:

Hi!
I'm from Barcelona.  I just discovered craftster two weeks ago...I have sign in because of your question.  Ok, here there are a few recomendations:

-The most popular fleemarket is "Encants Vells" it is in Glorias (metro red line).  You can find there everything you could imagine and very cheap! Go on saturday mornings
-Try also Ribes i Casals in Roger de Flor for all kinds of fabrics
-Second hand shops...Humana (but they are not cheap)
-Places to go...uuffff Have you been in the museum of the city? Plaa del Rei? I love also a little places for good fast food, zoo (c/escudellers) or a little place for sandwiches in Plaza St Jaume...
Well...have fun

I forgot

I just remembered a very cute and old shop where you can buy all kinds of stuff for making bags and purses, it is C/ Hospital 50, they only open mornings

Thanks for the recommendations! I went to the encants vells fleemarket, but I wasn't too impressed to be honest. I still found it kind of expensive for a fleemarket. I didn't go on a saturdaymorning, so I can't say if that would have been better.
I'll definitely go the fabricplace next time! Thank you! I only came across one fabricstore when I was there...
Oeh and where is the humana store?
We stayed in an apartment in C/Hospital and there were quite some secondhandshops in a sidestreet, one in the street itself, as well as a beadshop, but I don't remember a shop where you could find stuff for bags, I'll surely check it out next time!
And thanks for the food places, we weren't too successful findig good places to eat either!
It's a great city though, can't wait to come back :]

I'm probably going to try to do some research, but does anyone know if there are any good arts and crafts schools in Barcelona?

I'm hoping to go to Barcelona in a couple of months - anyone recommend / know of any yarn shops ?
I've been before and loved it, but I wasn't a knitter when I was last there...

Probablky the most interesting yarn shop in Barcelona (until ours opens in about a month and a half!) is Barcelana.  It's on Calle Brosol in the Gothic Quarter.  They import Yana-Be yarns from Argentina.

Hola!

Bienvenida a Craftster.

Here's directions to Barcelana - the coolest yarn shop!
Get off the Metro at Jaume 1 (yellow line), and walk down C/Argenteria - Brosili 1 is a side street on the left about half way down. If you reach the funky t-shirt shop with a donkey on the balcony above then you've gone too far! Closed Mondays and Saturdays

There's also a bead shop around Barri Gothic somewhere - I'll look for the bag with the address when I get home.

hmm I'm not sure if I'll get an answer in time, since I'm leaving for Barcelona next monday, but do you think that knowing almost no Catalan at all could be a problem in any fabric stores or something? I don't really speak spanish either(only french, english, german, swedish and italian)... may be a stupid question but it bugs me Undecided
so if anyone would answer I'd be really thankful Smiley

I was OK in the yarn shops with no language really. Use Babelfish to get a few key words ; cotton, lycra etc and you'll be fine.

The language of crafty need is universal!

Catalan is not a problem!!! Everybody speaks Spanish but maybe there are some people who feels more comfortable with Catalan.

I'm from Barcelona, so if you need some words or sentences to be translated, let me know!!!

I'm back now and hope to return to barcelona as quickly as possible... it was like paradise on earth... My head is full of inspirations and my bags were more than full of all kinds of fabrics, zips, buttons, yarn etc. This stuff is ridiculously cheap there (at least compared to france, switzerland and germany) and the variety is immense. I worried way too much about the language. I got everything I wanted without a problem and got used to speaking my weird mixture of catalan, spanish, english and a little french very quickly lol.
Yet another city I fell in love with... I was soooo sad yesterday when we were leaving.
Barcelona is even more stylish than Paris. And this means a lot since my love to Paris is almost endless lol

Sorry to revive this thread after so long, but I'm thinking of visiting Barcelona in late April, with my grandmother.  I've been looking on travel websites, but I'm a little overwhelmed.  Where would you say is a good area to stay in (not too expensive, good hotels, nice places to eat nearby and with not too far to walk for the metro/buses)?  I've heard that the Gothic Quarter is very busy and the Rambla (spelling??) is crazy busy - is that right?!

Thanks in advance.
