I'm going to be teaching some beginners knitting classes in my home and need a project idea that can be completed in 2-1 hour lessons. I'm thinking maybe a small clutch? Any other ideas?

How about cell phone cozies?

Here's a couple examples:

wristbands? thats what I've started people off on - at its simplest just a rectangle in garter stitch with the two shortest ends sewn together. Its fast and easy with that I actually made something buzz for motivation Smiley

wrist warmers/fingerless gloves! Most people do them in the round (and when I teach people to knit in the round, I usually have them do these, a la knitty's broadstreet wrist warmers. But for super beginners, just have them knit a rectangle, and sew up the seam except for a thumbhole an inch below the top. A clutch is also a great idea.

I love all the suggestions so far...  I was thinking wristlets too, but a couple of you already beat me to it!  Smiley  Another possibility is a washcloth, but not a boring one...  My favorite so far is one I did using the Irish Hiking Scarf pattern, and I just made it about 8 repeats long so it would be a little square instead of a whole scarf.  Plus it has cables in it and is very easy, so you could get people knitting cables before they ever get a chance to be afraid of them!

I love the wristband & headband ideas! Very cool. The dishcloth might be a neat project for the SAHM and older crowd, too.

This thread is giving me some GREAT Xmas ideas, too!

How about a simple stockinette st hat with rolling brim? Can be done straight and seam the sides, or in the round with circulars and/or dpns. If it's too lenghty you could always do it in a baby's size. HTH Smiley
