Hey there,

Is anyone out there a crafter from Edmonton, or the Edmonton area?

I'm a casual crafter myself (never created anything overly spectacular, but I find myself pulling out the fabric paints, or mod podge at least once a week to make something in my apartment or wardrobe just a bit more radtacular).

I tend to use what I can find. During the summer, I'm a garage sailor; I scour dollar stores for cheap and intriguing whatsits; I'll buy my paints and supplies at whatever store is available --say, Lewiscraft; and as for vintage, I find small-town shops (check out Twice But Nice in Fort Saskatchewan) are where it's proverbally at -- though the Goodwill off Whyte is a good size and offers a student discount.

But when I'm not personalizing my toque and mitts (hey...it's cold up here...no crocheted bikini for moi), I'm trying to write for my university newspaper.

For far too long now I've been throwing the idea around, with a couple other gals, of writing a piece about crafting, and I can't seem to discover any sort of "scene" 'round these parts.

Little help? Thank you muchly.

Now to learn how to knit...I so desperately want to make those cell phone cozies for Christmas presents..

Hey,

I'm quite the knitter, and like you I find there's nowhere here for a crafter to go.  Maybe we could get a scene going, since knitting and crafting is now the popular thing among us youngins?

I read the piece about crafting in the Gateway!  Very few of the people that I know are into crafting like I am, so I was kind of surprised to see a whole feature on it in the university paper.  It was a pleasant surprise!!

This website is also an awesome discovery of mine!  I only wish I had found it at a time when I had more time to spend crafting (rather than studying for final exams).  Oh well....at least now I have a long list of projects to work on during my winter break.

I also find it a bit discouraging that there's not much of a crafting scene for young folks like us here in e-town.  Unfortunately, it seems like everything crafty in this town is geared towards the older generation of crafters.  Which is why I love love love coming here....as well as checking out other sites like not martha, get crafty, etc.  Seems like this shall serve as my crafting scene!  Grin

I think this is an old thread but I want to bring it back to life.  Edmonton is so under-represented in this category!  I see Toronto, Vancouver, even Winnnipeg more.  I just moved here, anyway, and if anyone has any advice about yarn stores in Edmonton it would be very appreciated.  Also, someone up-thread mentioned something about starting a crafting group here and I think that's a great idea, especially since there seem to be so few people around here who craft.  I know I need all the support I can get!
Let me know what you think!
