I'm absolutely astonished, that is breathtaking and slightly surreal. I love it. I also really admire how smooth and even your work is. I crocheted a wire bracelet for a swap, and I wanted it to look 'piratey,' which was a good thing because I could not keep the tension even. Brilliantly done. I'd love to know how you did it - it looks like there are two 'balls' and then the tentacles are attached to those.

jettetheimpala: even tension comes with practice... i actually worked for a local jewelry company for about a year crocheting wire jewelry, so i've got a bit of a head-start.  as for the shaping, i basically made a small ball... except, just before closing the top end I started increasing again, turning my work so that I was going the other way. hmm... not sure if that makes sense, but it kinda works out like making two balls (one small, one large) that are connected, with one turned sort of inside-out so it's actually around the other.  and then, yes, the tentacles are attached afterwards.

maybe i should make a tutorial with pictures, might make more sense...

If you were to make a tutorial, Evilwench, I'm sure many, many people would be grateful. Although it does look like the kind of thing that takes an awful lot of practice and skill.
