Hi South Floridians.  I'm relocating to Miami in a few weeks.  Just did a google search for local fabric stores and it looks like there are a ton!  Which ones do you like best?  I can't wait to start exploring.  Spent, like, hours wandering around Pearl Art Supply today...

you should go to Downtown Miami! There are so many cheap fabric stores you won't know what to do!

well this is up in broward, but in hollywood there is ben raymond's which i think is a much better fabric/notions store than any of those in downtown. he has EVERYTHING and it's cheap, good quality fabric.

Where in downtown Miami? I'm willing to make the trip to Broward, but would much rather just jet over from the beach... Smiley

Ditto on that.  I keep hearing about these fabric stores in downtown, but I don't know where to look.

BEN RAYMOND!  the store is awesome.  It's on Harrison Street, just east of 20th avenue on downtown hollywood.  whenever i get the chance, i stroll over there (its 2 blocks from my place!)  best trim EVER.   Smiley

I live in unincorporated Dade county, and my favorite Fabric store is Arnold's Fabric and Trim, they don't have much trim but they have A Lot of fabric, and most of it is $1-$4 a yard. Arnold is also very helpful and patient most days, I've only been here for a year but I can't count the number of times I've gone in with a crazy new idea or a piece of clothing I either want to repair or duplicate. The store is located on 7th Ave and 129th St, almost right off of I95. I hope this is helpful, and that you have as good an experience as I do.

I believe I read on here about someone going to Fabrics A to Z. They were saying how the place has just about every kind of fabric you can think of, but it takes forever to go through.  Well, I ended up going in and looking around when the owner asked if I wanted to see more in the back.... boy was there more!  A huge warehouse full of fabric.  Its definately worth checking out if you have tons of projects in mind and some time to kill! I live in downtown Fort Lauderdale and I found it really easily off St. Rd. 7. Here's the address if you want to find directions.

Fabrics A to Z
3947 NW 19th St, Lauderdale Lakes, FL - (954) 677-2499

I still hit up Jo-Anns most of the time, and I'm going to take some advice and check out the store Ben Raymond's.

awesome, i just moved to plantation from Atlanta and i HATE it down here. i was depressed when i had to drive to tower shops just to go to an under stocked jo anns  that smelled like rotten cheese and leather and over by the patterns was puke on the chair!!!! Angry  i am going to do some exploring now. maybe if my fabric obsession is satisfied it wont be so bad after all. Cheesy

Plantation is not the best place to land so I understand.  I moved to fort lauderdale in Aug 07 and made it less than a year and was ready to leave - I hated it and was already planning my escape.  I moved down to Miami for a job in April and it has definitely grown on me...to the point I'm looking at applying to grad school here.   It took finding the right group of people to hang out with as well though!  Anyway, just to let you know its not all bad, its just a matter of finding the right spot Smiley

I moved to Miami in January and just moved to our permanent place in Hialeah a few weeks ago, so I've been wondering the same thing. I've seen a few big fabric stores in east Hialeah but I haven't gotten a chance to get out there yet. Anyone know of any in the Hialeah area (preferably West)?
I go to Miami Internation U of Art and Design downtown but I've never seen any fabric stores in that area (I also haven't had the chance to do much exploring though). Around what blocks are these enticing fabric stores?

Oh, when I lived near Kendall there was a place called Ultra Fabrics on Bird Rd near 88th. They are a bit pricey but they have some really fancy designer fabrics, and a lot of super kitschy cotton prints too  Cheesy

This really is an old post but another great place in South Florida where I try to find goodies is at Hialeah Flamingo thrift stores, a shopping center with about 7 different interesting stores!  Grin
