EDITED DATE:
I checked out the Phoenix Downtown Market this past Saturday morning, and it looks to have a lot of potential. Laura suggested that we have our next crafty get together there, followed by coffee/chatting/crafting/possible lunch, location TBD. Let's meet at the market on Saturday, September 24th at 10am. There is a seating area with white plastic tables and chairs that we can use as a meeting point.

The small, but growing market has booths of wares by local craftspeople, including hand spun yarns, jewelry, and glass, along with local produce, artisan breads, Arizona wine, handmade soap, and others. Vending for the market is for Arizona craftspeople only, and all goods that are sold must be hand made. Craftsters may want to check this market out as a possible outlet for their crafts. The craftspeople/vendors that I spoke to seemed to be happy with the market organizers and felt that the vending costs were reasonable.

It's located at 721 N. Central - SE corner of Central Ave. and McKinley St. (2 blocks south of Roosevelt, one block north of Fillmore - note that Central is one-way going north) and parking is free, lot entrance on McKinley.

Go to http://www.foodconnect.org/News3.htm for more details and a $1 coupon which is good at any vendor in the market.

i can't wait - it sounds like a lot of fun!  where exactly do you think would be a good place to meet?  are there any areas to sit down?

the reason i mention this is in case we have some new craftsters join us, it would be easier to find the group.  i know there are central phoenix / north side / west side craftsters who miss out because we meet on the east side...  now you all have no excuse! Wink

pee.ess. after checking out that website, i think i met lisa takata (who sells the handspun yarn) at the trunk space knitting group!

Oh yes, either a meeting spot or some type of identifying object... I know those aren't always fun,  but maybe like a ribbon -- is that too much ?  I only found everyone because I recognized the red glasses Smiley

veering off-topic: i've thought before that we should make a little logo or something and have mini buttons made up.  that'd be one way to identify each other.  the ones that craftster has for sale are 2.25 inches, i'm thinking of the little 1 inch guys.  i'm partial to little buttons, but i'm not sure if anyone else would be interested?

I think buttons would be a great idea-- maybe with a space for us to write/decorate our name so it's easy for the newer members to remember all of our names? Or we could all just bring a generic "hello my name is _______ " sticker (BOORing)

Ugh! Sorry guys, I forgot that I have a college alumni event that I've already signed up for that is happening the morning of the 10th. Can we change this to the following weekend, on the 17th?

re: buttons
yeah denise, i think we've all desired to be a part of a cult. should we all wear the same clothes, drink the same kool-aid. . .?
i'm teasing! are you kidding me - i'd wear craftster buttons. it is pretty awkward meeting craftsters for the first time. total good thought!

I'm in! either the 10th or the 17th.... or both??? buttons are a good idea, but the nametags work just as well. ribbons are also good. we used to do all that back in the day when I followed jump little children. sigh. I used to be old school. now I'm just old. also, just in case any east side craftsters are up for it, fiber factory is open late tuesday and thursday and lily and I have been going and having fun, but it sure would be nice to play with some kids our own age. Sad still crafty job hunting. no news on that front yet, but I'm getting plenty of knitting in. where can I buy koigu in the valley? anybody know?
