I made this for my husband for his birthday so he had a place to keep all of his medals and such.  My brother-in-law had a deck of cards that he played 52 card pickup with too many times (quite a few were missing) and he gave it to me.  I had gotten this cigar box and figured it was the perfect size.
I modge podged the cards face-down to give a good background to it and then put a full house ? on the top.

Then I painted the 4 symbols all around the sides.

On the inside I put a picture of our daughter (she's 2 in that picture) wearing her "Born Lucky" t-shirt.

Sorry about the picture size, I tried to change it, but it didn't work.

That is really neat! Your daughter is a cutie too.  Cheesy

(And I believe your hand is a Straight Flush)

Ooh that is a good idea... some friends of mine love to play cards, and that would be a great gift - a box to store decks of cards.... I know I've got decks missing cards around here somewhere. Thanks for sharing! Smiley

I'm sure I may sound like an idiot but what exactly is modge podge.  How do you go about doing that.  I want to make projects using gigar boxes and that sounds like something i need to know so i can pull off a really cool box.

It's actually called "mod podge" and it's a glue/topcoat that you can buy in little plastic jars at the craft store. You can use it for just sticking things together or for sealing on top of something. I think on this project, it was used for both.

Very cool box by the way! I want to make one!

Yay!  Finally I have time to post photos!  The first one is one I painted for my daughter, it's Nightmare before christmas and it has gold paint on the side I freehanded.   The second one is a anniversary present to my husband.  He loves all that 50's stuff.  I have more boxes, but they're in the attic Sad

Did you do all the painting yourself?  Cause if you did, you totally rock!

Your hand is a royal flush..  A full house would have two of one card and three of another (ie, KK333)...

*blush* thank you. They're cigar boxes I got from a tabacco shop. The box I painted for my husband smells so good because it was filled with these vanilla cigars.  They're pretty cheap, 1-3 dollars.  Some places will even give them away for free.

Those are cute! They reminds me of somthing I did with a jewlry box. I just covered it with a bunch of cards going in all different directions (I had to trim them in some places of course) and then glue them down with the hot glue gun. I looks cool!

Wow, I've never been asked anything like that before.  However I'm sorry to say it's not.  I made it for my daughter.  She LOVES Nightmare Before Christmas.  She even went as Sally for Halloween 2 years ago.  Thank you for asking though, it's very flattering Smiley

Check out your local tobbacanist - they generally have the cigar boxes they've emptied.  A really good tobbacanist will have several varieties of boxes.  I've been resisting the allure of the boxes at the place my sweetie gets his cigars.
