That is very awesome. I have seen lots of projects made from grocery bags but none even compare to this. I love that umbrella!

I love it!  They are gorgeous.  And knitting an umbrella is genius!  Sure, it might not keep out rain, but it makes a nice shade umbrella.  (I know... doesn't fit the metaphor... but I still like it!)

Yeah, someone else suggested a use as a parasol.  One day you might fins me walking down the streets of Burlington, Vermont under the shade of my grocery bags.  Grin

I was going to enter this and make a shopping bag out of grocery bags, but I didn't because school was starting. Anyway, I'm glad I didn't bother because you totally would have put me to shame.

It's kind of like anti-Bush performance art! I love it!

It would be an interesting intervention....to walk around and interact with people and talk about art and the economy.  I need to figure out how to display it when it's not on a person...it's going to be in a fashion show in October but I'd like to display it conventionally...and it might be hard unless I can come up with a mannequin.  Even then I think a mannequin would distract from the art.  It's something I'll have to consider.

Hurray for art with social context!  Hurray for plastic bag knitting!

I had a short flirtation with this technique, but really hated the way the bag strips felt.  I commend you for creating such ambitious and beautiful projects with this material!

On a technical note, did you pattern your umbrella "slices" or did you wing it?

I bow down to your knitting, and way of thinking!!!!!
