I needed a basket to use outside when I'm harvesting vegetables, cutting flowers, or even pulling weeds.  And I thought of the big box of pantyhose in the back of the closet.  I don't know why I saved them - I just couldn't throw them out.

So I crocheted a washable, durable, flexible gardening basket.

First I cut the legs off the pantyhose.  Then I cut them lengthwise to make thinner strips.  Some of the very heavy ones were cut in 3 or 4 strips.  I just knotted them together and crocheted with a big hook.

I like the organic shape, and the color variation.  But I did use a smaller crochet hook to pull the knots to the inside.  I can wash this with the garden hose or throw it in the washing machine.

It worked up very nicely, as you can see in the close up.

Great Job! I made a rug out of pantyhose once, but I cut them into circles, like hot loops (or whatever they are called.) those things you weave and make potholders and stuff.

I like this idea way better!

I'm delighted that so many people get a kick out of it.

CrappieFisher, it's SC.  I did a spiral, rather than rounds.  The first 6 or 7 times around, I was increasing, then I crocheted straight until I ran out of pantyhose - leaving the opening for the handles of course.

This is a beautiful basket.  It would be good to hold delicate fruits like peaches.  Good job!
