Okay, this may already be passe, but I need help regardless...

I am making purses out of cigar boxes and I don't really know where to get the handles. I looked online, and the only company I found looks kind of fly-by-night, not the kind of place I want to give credit card info to, ya know?

Here in TX, we have Michael's and Hobby Lobby, but I don't think they have anything that would do...

Any ideas of a good online store?

The main company for these is UMX (http://www.umei.com) which has a horrible Web site that I wouldn't recommend using.  Give them a call and they'll send you a mail order catalog.

Also, check trusy ol' eBay!

I'm not sure it is any cheaper than buying a handle from UMX, but I had beads, wire and a drill so I made my own.

I think that the purse looks great.  Where have you found the cigar boxes themselves?  Thrift stores, etc...?

someone posted that they sell handbag handles on ebay for less than retail:

another idea is to keep an eye out at thriftstores for purses that you can cannibalize and just use the handles.

You can get cigar boxes from cigar stores.  Recently in Miami we stopped in one and they had nice wooden ones like udandi's for like $5.  Seems pretty steep, but I've heard that you can make back much more since the markup on those is a ton.

just go to your local tobacco shop...they usually sell them for $3 or so.  if you're really lucky, maybe they'll give 'em away, but with this cigar purse trend, i highly doubt it  Wink

thanks!  I Didn't mean to steal anyone's thunder, I'm just a visual person so I like to use pix instead of writing out what I did!

I'm on the prowl for a good deal on lampwork glass beads so I can make handles for the other boxes I have!

I can't wait to see your tutorial and anything else you have!
