I took AP studio art this past year, and as a result, I had about a million slides leftover at the end of the course and awhile ago, I read in readymade magazine they had a tutorial on how to make lampshades out of slides. So I decided to give it a go, and here's what I came up with: a cute little reading lamp for my nightstand. I'm definitely taking this to my dorm room!

Here's with the lamp turned off:

Here's one with it on:

And here's just a closeup of the slides with the lamp on:

This was a pretty easy project. I just rescued a lamp base from my local salvation army store, then got a lampshade and tore off the paper covering to leave only the circle and the part that goes around the bulb. Then I figured out how many slides I would need, and how long I wanted my columns to be, then drilled holes in each slide with a "1/16 drill bit (this was the most tedious part) and attached them all with jump rings.

Wow! When my grandpa passed away we found TONS of these in his house. They're of places that he traveled to....I bet they'd make cool lamps....

Neato, thanks for the explanation too, otherwise it's hard to see what you actually did.
Where did you get the jump rings? and were they expensive?

I got the jump rings from Michaels, they were the 10mm kind, and they weren't more than $2 for a bunch of them.
