I was at the Ren Fair the other day, and noticing the chain mail clothing merchants. Then a girl walked past wearing a tank sweater with a really loose, uh, I guess "weave" would be the right word. Anyway, it hit me...chain mail-looking crochet!! I'm new to crochet, so I'm wondering is there a stich or something that would give that effect? I'm allergic to metal (on my skin, that is), plus, real chain mail is NOT cheap. Any ideas? Knowing my luck, there's probably already a thread about this...Thanks!

what a cool idea. i am looking thru a book i have nad it looks like some filet or lace crochet techniques could work. this book doesnt have a whole lot of techniques. if i were you, i'd go to the library or a bookstore (bring yarn and a hook) and look in one of those stitch "bibles" that has like 200 stitches in it, lol.

if you make anything post it ok?

Are you sure it was not naalbinding? This can look very much like chain mail.

I took a look at the naalbinding....but,no, it was a big loose weave, very lightweight looking. I should mention I'm looking into this because I also have skin allergies to metal. Anyway, I'll post if I comw up with anything...I haven't checked some of the online stich guides yet...Thanks, though!
