(Scroll down for tutorial)
We waste an insane amount of grocery bags each month. We do recycle them, but I still feel guilty. So I'm making my own grocery tote bags to bring with me from now on.

Happy bread, sad toast:

Peta stencils:

Happy fruits & vegies:

Group picture:

EDIT: I had a few requests for a tutorial so here it is:

Here's all the pieces you need for the main part of the bag:

Step one: Sew them all together with the outside of your fabric on the inside. I sewed the pieces together in a different order each time to see if there was a best way to do it and it worked just fine either way.

Step two: Flip right side out.

Step three: Fold over the top edge over/inside about and inch (pin it down if you have the patience to do things properly, which I don't) and sew that.

Now you have a nice fabric box with/out a lid. All you have to do is add a strap/handle of some sort.

I LOVE IT! I have two reusable grocery bags crochetted from recycled plastic grocery bags, so I am totally with you on wanting to reduce bag waste.

I love it!  If I didn't have to pick up dog poo, I would copy this and never use another plastic bag again.  Maybe I'll make one anyway and only take a couple of plastic ones as needed.

There's a girl on livejournal.com/community/craftgrrl that keeps making things with cute lil toasts with faces. I've been wanting to make some happy toast ever since I saw one of her first posts months and months ago.

The strap on this one is only so long because the bag is so big and I didn't think a small handle would have worked. Most of the other grocery bag I'll be making will be about half this size and have normal sized handles.

I love the emotions of the bread and toast after it was burnt! ha! The images remind me of the shirt on threadless were the toast is being chased by an angry toaster!
