I don't know. That's what we've always called them. Maybe it's a southern thing? They're also called no bake cookies, and probably several other names as well.

yea!  Someone else who makes these with peanut butter!  I always thought they tasted rather flat without it...

sometimes I stir raisins in too.

thanks for posting this recipe!

I've never called them "preacher cookies" but then I've never made them without peanut butter. My recipe starts with double your ingredients, makes an additional 1 C of nuts optional, and can be heated in the microwave  (all the ingredients except the oatmeal) and then poured and mixed with the oatmeal.

Huge recipe. Big hit at church covered dish suppers (maybe that is why the name???)
My recipe is called, unimaginatively enough, Chocolate Oatmeal No-Bake Cookie-Candies.

MMMMM.....No Bake Cookies are my favorite!  I have the worst luck with them though!  Either I boil to long, or I don't boil long enough.  Then they don't set right.  They are too soft.  But usually if I stick them in the fridge for a couple hours they end up ok.
