Wedding Purse Help?

I offered to make my cousin the purse for her wedding day as her shower gift.  I have an idea of what style she would like, but haven't had any luck finding pattterns.  I'd like to make a clutch in satin, but it would need to be heavily interfaced so it isn't squishy.  Do any of you have any resources I can try for patterns for classy evening purses/bridal purses?  Any help would be waaaay appreciated!

For a structured feel... you can use craft fusable interfacing (try Pelon or similar) or you can sorta quilt-stitch in heavier sew in interfacing for a really stiff feel. Quitl stitching or using adhesive will definitely help in this application.

Its not a clutch, but I also made a purse for a wedding gift this year. It was a small purse that was made in a typical tote style. I used a wonderful linen type material. It's a great idea and very personal.

im actually in the process of helping a friend make the pleated clutch in satin for her bridesmaids.  i'd recommend as heavy an interfacing you as you can get to fuse to the satin as the satin itself does not hold the pleats at all. and even with interfacing you need to make the pleats pretty big or they get lost (or i just dont know how to keep them looking good through the sewing process)  we used a satin brocade for the lining which gives it a bit more structure as well.    good luck!

I was thinking of that problem.

What if you interfaced the flat material w/ light or med weight fusable interfacing. Then made your pleats and sew. Then take a heavier craft interfacing and fuse another layer to the wrong site thereby holding it together a bit more. Trim away overlapping portions.

That might work.

I would also recommend against satin for the outside. It's a pain in the arse to work with. I would try and hit the uphostery remnants section of your fabric store and find some material with a nice sheen. Uphostery fabric is so much sturdier than some regular fabrics. Or try and find a satin like fabric with some weight, b/c even if you interface the satin, you start to lose its pretty flow-y characteristics. Also be warned that satin MELTS very easily under the iron, which I found out. So use a damp towel if you plan on ironing it.

OK, so I decided to try the satin.  You were right diagonal man, it was a bitch!  At any rate, I thought I would share the final outcome since I am most proud.
