My friend and I are in the midst of making our own versions of this hat.  I'll post pictures of them and a rough version of my pattern.  The only reason I made my own pattern is because I'm already familiar with an ear flap hat I've made before and thought it would go faster if I wasn't relearning a whole hat. But I'll be using the original creators drumstick idea I think... Can't wait to get done!  We're wearing them to Thanksgiving (even funnier because I'm a vegetarian).

Well I finished my version of the hat!  I don't have a digital camera though.  I will try to get some pictures up ASAP.  All my ideas were from the original creator of the crochet version.  But I think I may be able to cook up a full pattern for mine.  Or at least enough of one for a intermediate-advanced crocheter.  For now All I have is the pattern for my turkey legs.

Turkey leg
ch2,6sc in 1st ch
Rnd 2: 2sc in each sc around
Rnd3: *2sc in first sc, 1sc in next sc, repeat from *
Rnd4: *2sc in first sc, 1sc in next 3 sc, repeat from *
Rnd5: Repeat Rnd 4
Rnd6-10: sc in each sc around
Rnd11:*sc 2tog(decrease), 1sc in next 3 sc, repeat from *
Rnd12: sc in each sc around
Rnd13:*sc 2tog, 1 sc in next 3 sc, repeat from *
Stuff what's done so far
Rnd14-15: sc in each sc around
Rnd16:*sc 2tog, 1 sc in next 3 sc, repeat from *
Rnd 17-19: sc in each sc around
Rnd20: *sc2tog, 1 sc in next 3 sc, repeat from *
Rnd 21-23:Sc in each sc around
stuff the rest of leg
Change to white.
Sc around end of leg
3 dc in each sc around, end yarn
push large circle flat to make fan shape
stitch together middle of fan shape
push remaining sides of fan up to middle to form a 4 leaf clover shape and stitch together.

Also, I used the basic idea of this hat

http://mycrochetstuff.blogspot.com/2005/06/crochet-helmet-pattern.html

Except I made it a little longer, and omitted the vertical stripes and put some bobbles on it, and made a little bit of a ribbed look at the bottom.

Then I took the same idea for the pulls and tassels from the orignal crochet chicken hat.
