I have this wedding-style dress from the thrift store. i reconned' it into a skirt and the lace is gorgeous. it's from mariposa and the lining is acetate and the lace is polyester. there's a yellow stain on the front of the lace. i did a search but i don't know what to do. I don't want to loose this, it's a beauty.

thanks a bunch, tamara

First suggestion is to take it to a cleaners and see what they can do.

Second is to take some of your scraps and see if you can wash them.  You SHOULD be able to.  If it holds up ok then you can proceed.  I use a product called Zout for all my tough stain needs.  It has removed every stain I have tried it on.  Including old set in stains.

oh cool. i had never even thought of testing the scraps.
what do you think of the dying option. I would love the dress in black, pink, burgundy, or, and this seems the most plausible given said stain,  a yellowed color.  Any suggestions

If you died it in a darker color than the stain, the dye should cover it up. Once again, try dying test scraps to see how it works.

Use those scraps!!!  Remember that man-made fabrics do not take dye as well as natural fabrics and the colors may not turn out like you expect.

Also, try to get the stain out first.  Otherwise you might still end up with a different colored patch where the stain is.

and this is it, purple:

i used rit dye- wine red, which turned out great, except the light colored lace obviously didn't dye, but with the red it was pink, and that was like granny curtains, so i dyed it black and got this lovely purple. (RIT black dye has a bluish cast)
