If you don't have the Stitch n Bitch Nation book, which has the 1-hr baby booties, then try an easy baby hat. The first one I ever made turned out so cute I couldn't stand it.

I used Velvet Touch, which is a super-soft nylon yarn (mostly, I liked the color). The one pictured is a preemie cap, so you'd just make it a little bigger. It's just a rectangle, knit in a ribbed pattern, then seamed up the back and tied in the top. Too easy, and very cute.

Here's where I got the pattern (again, you need to make it bigger for a normal-size baby).

In the completed section is a poncho I made for my cousins baby and I linked to the pattern there. It's just 2 rectangles seamed together.

I knit this for a friend's baby, and she loved it! Very easy and quick (hats always are) and it makes mom giggle every time she puts it on her bunchkin  Wink
