My fiance and I met online, and we are using that as our inspiration for our wedding reception decor. We want to incorporate old/recycled computer parts, but I'm having trouble thinking of things to do.

Does anyone have any ideas of what to do with old computer parts? Nothing is too big or too small; I just would appreciate any ideas. Thanks in advance!  Cheesy

I've never seen the inside of a computer, but I'm sure there is some stuff in there you could make a garland of.  You could use the wires or some ribbon and tie some other smaller parts to hang off of.
You could also maybe use the circut boards (?), cut them in smaller peices. then attach one of those alligator clips and use to hold photos or other small paper items (name cards, table #, etc.)

I haven't seen this posted in any of the computer revamped threads..but..what about using the ribbon cables (those things that plug in the hard drive and the floppy, etc) and turning them into bracelets?

Earrings, decorations on a picture frame or bracelt out of the Cat 5 connectors? (the little clips that LOOK like a phone plug but are bigger)

I really like the idea of making clocks out of old computer parts- but I would use the metal case as the clock face- it could be cut and painted into ANYTHING-or the main motherboard itself... and then some keys off the keyboard or other internal salvages for the 'numbers'....

I'm sure I could come up with a ton more ideas...it'll just have to wait till I am home and can look at one of the *many* gutted computers in my office..lol

i have seen a lot of things made out of old circuit boards, but things like notebooks, clocks, nothing you could use at a wedding reception. maybe you could make coasters or placemats?

errr, we have a small coffee table that is actually an old computer case. well, we like to think of it as being a coffee table, but it really is just an old computer case that was lying around that people started leaving their teacups on!

not to put a downer on things, but if you haven't already, it would be a good idea to consider the logistics of collecting the dozens of old computers you will need in order to decorate for an entire wedding reception - eg how many will you need, where/who are you going to get them from, have you the space to store them.

You can get unworking keyboards and pop off the keys for some fun place cards or you can pop off the keys and put them back on in any order you want to make a sign.

Check on ebay. I searched for circuit boards and you can buy them by the Hundreds!

Some ideas:
coasters
plates
pages for guest book
glue some signs onto them

get an old computer keyboard and take out the keys. then drill a hole through them and you can make necklaces or cufflinks or any other jewellery.
