This is just a general question, but have you guys had any trouble with cord fabrics and sewing machines? My machine does NOT like thicker fabrics–– has anyone figured out a way to get around this? It's very frustrating when you're trying to make a more "heavy duty" object.

You might need to adjust the tensions...I have a Brother and the tension for  fabric is at the top...  you also might need a different sewing needle.....

I second the tension comment!  Also, having just made a bag out of thick corduroy, you might want to get a size 16 sewing needle, at times i just had to lift the presser foot and move the fabric along myself, little by little, like when going through more than 4 layers of it.  Another suggestion is to crack out the manual for your sewing machine and read the section of tension.  Lastly, sew slowly and make your stitch length less than 2,  this will help you control your stitches better.
