Book Purse Question

I'm making a book purse for my mom for her birthday, i found one of her favorite authors with a nice cover... but the cover is the book jacket... i really love the cover, is there anyway of keeping the jacket with the purse ?

Now, I'm definitely not a professional here - I've only made a few book purses, but I'm sure you could just glue the cover on before the fabric.  A glue that doesn't wrinkle and will withstand heat/humidity would probably be the best.  A spray would be easier.  Sorry, though, I don't have any glue recomendations.

maybe you could use mod podge? it glues and seals (sp?) but i am not familiar on how to make book purses so i don't know how that would work...

Like spray adhesive? I have that for my stenciling...

Isn't Mod Podge the same as decoupage ?

Spray adhesive probably will not work.

Mod Podge/another decoupage will probably work for a time, but since the cover of the book is probably slightly porous, it probably isn't your best choice.

I made a purse very recently with the cover still on it. I used E6000 glue -- make sure you coat the spine and the edges VERY well otherwise you'll end up with the edges ripped and worn. It would be even better to use a contact paper or good quality packing tape to catch the bottom and top edges (not where the jacket wraps around to the inside -- the top and bottom as if you were reading it, hehe), but you may not want the shiny effect it would give. If you don't, just make sure you get the edges well.

Mod Podge might hold the edges down, actually. I'd use thin layers after you glued the jacket on first -- you're supposed to anyway, I believe, otherwise the paper will wrinkle.

I would be more worried about damage to the bookcover. Maybe use vinyl to cover it? or the contact paper that LisaMRose suggested?

There's such a thing as iron-on vinyl... I haven't tried it yet, but it could be a solution to adhering and protecting the cover. You can find it in most craft stores and online I think. Try http://www.sarah1980.com/vinyl.htm.
