I have a few recipes that call for flax powder.  At the store I found stuff called flax seed meal.  It was in a colored bag so I couldn't see what it looked like, but it felt powdery.  Does anyone know if that is the same thing as flax powder?

i am pretty sure that would be the same thing...the reason it was in a opaque bag is because i believe flax seed meal will go rancid if exposed to too much light.

i've never seen the meal, just whole flax seeds, so whenever i need powder i just grind up some seeds in my blender or mini food processor, and my "homemade" powder works just fine!

Thanks so much! I was pretty sure it was the same thing, but I didn't want to buy it before I made sure..now I can get it for my recipe!

ps - whole or ground flax seeds make yummy additions to smoothies, so if you have leftovers after making your recipe, that's a good use!  i'm drinking a strawberry/banana/soy milk/peanut butter/flax seed smoothie right now and it's delicious!
