After hearing many people on craftster talk about having made, or thinking about making this dress, I've decided it's time for this dress to have it's own sew along thread.  Anyone interested in making either version should of course join!

http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin/butterick/shop.cgi?s.item.B6582=x&TI='6582'&page=1

I made this dress about 2 years ago, and it was one of the first things I have sewed without having someone help me with, so I encourage beginners to try this as well.
I am now in the process of making this dress again.

I'll post pictures of my first dress and the one I'm making now, when I can.  Right now the digital camera is in the shop because the lens would not retract.    They called today though, so I think it might be ready!

Did you sew the dress with the full skirt, or the other one?  I might want to use this pattern for a winter holiday dress (I know it's August, but I get uber-busy in the fall and tend to defer such projects).  Looking forward to yer pics!

Ok, well I guess the camera was sent away to be fixed, but I did get my hands on another camera.   I have made the version with the big skirt, although I love both versions.

I haven't made the belt yet, because I think I am going to make it out of a solid colored fabric because I think at least in this case it will look better then using the same kind of material.  It's not hemmed yet either, I'll take a picture of me wearing it, when it is.
The pictures are outside, because my room has terrible lighting.  This is a pretty bad picture as well though.  I'll replace this with something better soon.

and a close up of the fabric.  It's on the front near the waist.

If you notice, the skirt on this dress pattern is gathered, but not in the very front, where the stomache is.  I like that.

Oooooo... I bought this pattern awhile ago, but haven't made it yet. I wanted to make a version in white stretch satin, but I think I'm going to wait awhile on that. Maybe in the mean time I'll make one with a full skirt in some fun print. Not sure when I'll be able to get it started, though....

The idea of making the full-skirted dress is really growing on me.  I got some muted claret-colored satin over the weekend that looks helluh retro.  I asked an older relative, and she told me I would definitely need a petticoat if I wanted to give the skirt body (like in the pic on the pattern envelope).  Those of you who've already sewn it: what's it look like on?

Well, I've just gotten back today from being in Montana for a week.  It seems my dad's camera has finally come back from the shop!   (They had to mail it away.)  so I'll be able to take some photos of me wearing the dress tomarrow.

Your relative is right about the petticoat.  I have one that I wear with mine.

I need to learn how to starch things.  The tulle part of  my underskirt is not stiff anymore, because it had been through the wash.  It now hangs like just any other piece of fabric, so the poof factor in these pictures is extremely minimal, but better then nothing.  I'm planning on making a bigger underskirt sometime.  (This one wasn't very big to begin with, but pretty good for getting at some church's second hand sale.)

I still haven't gone to get  my belt kit yet.   Roll Eyes

Now, that is a very lovely dress!!!  I don't know what it looked like before the underskirt was washed, but it looks great the way it is!

Oooh, it looks lovely on you!  What a flattering and sexy-in-an-inobvious-way shape.  Very nice indeed.

What if you made a SEPARATE underskirt? Wouldn't that be a lot easier to manage?

The underskirt is seperate, but to avoid an awkward story I'll just say, the underskirt smelled like smoke Tongue and had to be washed.

I know this post is old, but hopefully someone can help me out.
I'm making version A of this dress for my winter formal.
The basic pattern seems very simple but I'm having a bit of trouble with the darts and whatnot.
Uhhh my fabric is so annoying too, as I chose this uberly soft silky stuff.

Ohhhh, it just so happens that time has managed to slip past me, and the dance is this Friday.
Hopefully I'll get it done. Any help would be appreciated SO SO much.
