I was wondering how long to give a participant before giving negative feedback??

I usually give them about 4-6 weeks. If you keep PM'ing them and they don't respond maybe sooner. sometimes people communicate and are having real issues and just need time.

I gave my only flaker 3 weeks.   I hadn't heard from her in over a month.   I think it depends on communication.   I wanted to do it fairly quickly though because I didn't want her joining other swaps and flaking on them.   She had only positive feedback at that point, so someone would have let her in.

I think communication with other swap organisers is REALLY, REALLY important. I've organised three swaps now and I've had flakers in two, which I fortunately caught before the send date and managed to circumvent.

Naturally, I did some research and checked out which other swaps they were in and let the organisers know. One of them was before the new feedback system and we managed to prevent the swapper from receiving three packages that they weren't going to reciprocate.
