these last two are both great! Rickrackruby a question for you do you think if the ties were heavy duty  interfaced  it would help with keeping the ties looking good? I have a feeling though it's inevitable though. But all that work knowing it's going to wear out. BUT you could recycle it into braided cords or something and make a picture frame sowing off a pic of the purse! Okay I'll quit with the cute now.

does anyone know the artist Shag?  he draws really cool, swanky prints -www.shag.com, anyway i found some ultra hip Shag-esque fabric that would look perfect for this type of bag.

I made this bag the night before the first day of school... that was in September! I can't believe I am only getting to post this now! My Mom helped me out a bit, but it was a really fun project. I get so many compliments on it and people cannot believe it's hand-made. I even got two boxes of ties from my aunt because she loved my bag.

ps...does anyone else who has made this have problems with the straps digging into your shoulders? my only issue.

Is your strap knotted? Is it the knot that is hurting your shoulder?
Can you move the knot off center to one side or another (front or back) so that the weight of your books doesn't fall directly from the knot but falls on  a smooth stretch of handle?
Just a thought.

DAMN!  What a cool idea!  I was never into the necktie skirt look, but I love the necktie bag! 

About 15 years ago I found a bag of vintage neckties in the attic that had belonged to my grandfather.  I kept less than a dozen of them (there were probably 60), but I'm not sure what happened to the rest.  I hope that when I go to my parents' house I can find them!

the knot is right at the top, so i guess that is probably the problem, but it's probably because I normally have way too many textbooks it my bag! i was thinking of adapting the strap so it's maybe a little thicker. i don't know. i am going to see if moving the knot helps, but i think it's just how skinny the strap gets at the top.
