Hey Jordy-I'm new but I sure have loved watching your perfect little purse tutorial morph into a thousand bright ideas!!!

Anyway-about the backstitching:

Sew forward on the machine, without backstitching at the beginning or the end. Then leave yourself enough thread to tie knots by hand(with each pair). It is a little fussy, but its easy. Use a pin to pull the top thread to the back (wrong side) of fabric and gently tie a few overhand knots. That way the applique looks neat. Ofcourse sometimes I'm too lazy to do that and if I think it won't show I'll back stitch anyway. Smiley

Gee I hope that made sense and was what you were wanting to know! :O

Hello Jordy,

I use normaly instead of a backstitch a very little stitch.Normay I sew with 2,5 or 3 and at the beginning and the end I sew a few stitches with 0,5.Then turn the stitch to 3(or whatever you use)sew and at the end stop, turn the stitch to 0,5 and sew the rest.
I never had problems with this method.

Have a nice day!

I always find backstitching on felt weakens its, and it tears a little. I usually just pull the thread to the back, and tie it a few times with my hands. I hate doing this, because there are always a million knots for me to tie! I always embelish the little thing I sew one way too much. Smiley

When I sew appliques I try to backstitch slowly by turning the dial by hand instead of trying to slow down on the pedal.....it turns out much neater for me!  I only do about 2 to 3 stiches.
(I learned from many mistakes with a major glob of thread in one area...im sure you guys have been there right?)

And...Brooklyn Craft....I saw your avatar and could not contain my laughter...Im in a university computer lab so People were staring at me!  It brightened my day    ~M
