Hi AZ Craftsters,

After the funeral is over I will call chindogu and chriswass (if your contact info has changed since our "original" list please let me know.)  Hopefully I can meet up with you all at Gracie's or wherever.  Later!

Ok, so last weekend didn't materialize, so, I say that we meet up this Saturday at 10am at Gracie's for the big sale day, then go to Haji Baba (a Middle Eastern grocery and cafe that is just down the street) for lunch to look at each other's prizes. If we feel inspired to, we could also include SAS, since it is so close.

Gracies Family Thrift Store
1520 E Apache Blvd Tempe, AZ
(opens at 9am)

Haji-Baba
1513 E Apache Blvd
(opens at 11:30am)

Who else is in?

I just saw this posted on the Stich 'n Bitch Phx list that may be of interest, if I can get my butt up to go there before we meet at Gracie's:

Subject: Navajo Churro Yarn!

Hi everyone,
I want to extend a special invitation to you to visit my artist booth at the Downtown Phoenix Public Market (Central Ave and McKinley in downtown Phoenix) this Saturday, August 20, from 8 am to noon.  I've just returned from the Navajo Nation with a gorgeous assortment of Navajo Churro handspun, vegetal dyed yarn that will be offered for sale this Saturday morning for the first time.  I am hoping to establish a long term partnership with this Navajo family to bring their yarn and fleece to you on a regular basis through the Market - they provide a unique Arizona Grown product that you just can't find anywhere else.  Please stop by and
say hello - I'm there every week with my own handspun yarn and sometimes pottery or photography.

Lorraine Herder, her sister Edith and their family create handspun, vegetal dyed yarn from the wool of Navajo Churro sheep on a remote ranch north of Second Mesa, Arizona.  Generations of the family have lived on these vast high mesa grasslands since the 1800's and are now part of a concerted effort to reintroduce the Navajo Churro breed of sheep, which was nearly extinct by the 1970's. Navajo Churro wool comes in an amazing rainbow of colors including black, brown, silver, grey, beige, cream, white and the rare red mesa hue.  The wool fibers are especially long (6 to 7 inches) which make them ideal for handspinning and other fiber arts.

If you visit the www.foodconnect.org website before you visit, you can print out a coupon good for $1 off any market purchase.

Okay I just learned a new word.  Vegetal.  I love it and I'm going to try to use it in a conversation today.....

That market sounds great Chris.  Maybe after you scout it out for us we could make that our Sept. AZ Craftster meet-up destination!  Look for nearby coffee shops.

See you Saturday.

Great Kathleen, can't wait to meet you.  I'm a minivan mom too!  So that's Chris, Carole, Kathleen and me at least - anyone else?  Craftymama?  Larahspee?
