This is my first post! I made this lamp/ earring holder with acrylic paint, an ikea lampshade, ikea base, and some cheap trim that I bought at Michael Levine in LA.

http://www.csulb.edu/~dnoble/images/LAMP2.jpg

I made the stripes by using masking tape to tape them off ( I used my eye, no measuring) and covered the lamp in several layers of acrylic paint in brown and darkish  sea green. Then I glued the trim on with some polyurethane varnish. I like using the varnish because I can get really messy on the trim and it will still dry clear with no drips.  It's a good bond, too.

Overall this project cost me probably $20-25 dollars, including the nice brass lamp base.  Well worth it, I think. Thanks for looking!

awesome! I have been on a lamp-making kick lately. What is the trim made out of - I can't tell if it is fabric or metal?

It is satin fabric with plastic rings sewn in.

I love this! I would make one if I didn't think my cat would attack it! What a good idea.

What a good idea to combine the lampshade with the earring holders!
