wow, what a great shrine and crafts!!  i always associate Dia de los Muertos stuff w/ black so i was surprised by the light colors which i totally like!! nice job!!

Yeah...I alwats associated it with black and hot glittery colors. I probably put white under my favorite colors on the questionaire so maybe that inspired the color choice...i love it tho' - very organic!

my kitty, smash, loves it too - she tried to eat the twigs.

Yeah, rocknroll, you listed your favorite colors as black, white, teal, coral, and off white. I was originally going to paint the shrine, but I really liked the way the rice paper looked with the bark in it showing like that. When I saw your favorite colors, I thought I'd just leave it! At first I thought I'd do it all white on white, but then I found that illlustration with that cat in it, and I knew you had a kitty at home. The illustration was too good to pass on.

Anyway, the whole thing just sort of changed and morphed along as I was doing it. It was really fun to make. I hope its whiteness doesn't hang you up too much!

I guess I should have included extra sticks for the cat!!  Grin

I got a totally incredible package from rocknroll today, and at the risk of making you all jealous, I'm posting pictures now! Here is the wonderful shrine that she made. I love all the glitter designs, and really love that hot pink felt puffy skull! So well made! It has glitter-decorated lucite doors on hinges that open and close. The sun is made out of a painted bottle cap, with glittery rays. Look how great the shrine looks in its new hanging spot! It's right where I can see it when I am on my computer. The colors go so well in this room!

In this closeup, you can see the skeleton-y representations of me, my husband, and my two daughters. There is even a little skeleton dog in the left corner. That would be my dog, Nikki. She looks a lot like that, only not quite as thin.

rocknroll also sent some Loteria suncatchers (so cool). Here are some of them:

And here is one in action (try not to notice the dirty window) I'm planning on hanging these all in the window near the shrine, maybe after I pull out the Windex!

And if all that isn't enough, I had told rocknroll that some of my hobbies included reading and drinking wine, so she sent me a laminated Frida bookmark, and a really neat coaster for those drink glasses! What more could I ask for? I can enjoy using both of these at the same time!

This package seriously made my day. Thank you so much, rocknroll. I love everything you made, and I really appreciate all the time and effort that went into everything. You are a great swap partner, both talented and thoughtful!

Ooooh! It matches the wall perfectly! I'm so glad I could add to the "Lava Room!" Your pics are great. I don't think I need to add to them at all.

Oh and to everyone - sorry for whatever is going on with my pics of rackycoo's stuff - for some reason I have a lot of trouble every time I upload pics at home (maybe b/c my connection's so slow?)...I'll get signed out in the middle of it, or stuff will save over existing files...I'll try to fix it when I get home tonite!  Undecided
