thats beautiful! and the black ribbon adds the perfect finishing touch!

I can't help with glue issues.. avid journal makers here, but we drill and bind most with coils, unless for something special..

I'm thinking of adding some sort of cover/bag for carrying-protection, since he's a solider, and a very messy one.. just haven't thought through this idea enough. If you have any suggestions I'd be thrilled to hear..

How about making a small bag from fabric? Whether it's zipper-up, velcro, or something that you can pull to close (sorry my English.... but just to make it clear of what I mean, I just have to steal this image from internet-middle-of-nowhere Tongue:
It's pretty simple and not that difficult to sew. (I think.)
But since that you mention he's a soldier... you probably want to make it from something waterproof. Just in case....
I dunno, or you could just use zip-up plastic bag? Less-romantic but...oh well... dont mind me, it's a silly idea.  Tongue
Or, if you want, some plastic can be sewn....

Just some ideas though... I'm sorry I cant offer much help.

Btw love the book so much. Smiley

Is wheat paste strong?
-  Last week I used homemade wheat paste to glue suede leather onto my book's wooden covers, and the paste is holding fine.

Does wheat paste attract bugs?
-  I did find this link:  http://www.jhu.edu/~jhumag/1198web/arts01.html which is an article about a preservation librarian from John Hopkins University who is trying to conserve and restore Cuban documents.  Bugs and acidification are both problems with the archives, and she uses wheat paste and Japanese tissue for mending.  If it is good enough for her, it is good enough for me  Smiley

-  I also found something here:  http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node=wheat%20paste  The second article on this site states it is the gluten in the paste which attracts bugs, so you want to use pastry, cake, or bread flour for making paste since they contain less gluten than all-purpose flour.

Thanks, viburnum, for asking the bug question.  I would never have thought to look this up if I had not read your post  Cheesy

Into fictional letter writing? PM me. We need more characters. What am I talking about? Read about it at Dante's Wardrobe.
