** Alright, I finally got my lazy ass up to reupload the pictures & post them up, just for you guys.  **

I turned this not-so-flattering long-sleeved collared shirt..


.. into this!


I had originally intended on just taking in the sides to make it tighter & chop off the sleeves & collar, but I accidentally made it too tight. Sooo, I decided to improvise. 

& someone, please, tell me what this is called.

EDIT (July 26 2005; 3:52PM): I made another one last night because this one got me all excited.

EDIT AGAIN: I made yet ANOTHER one. This time, I took pictures along the way to make a tutorial, for those who are interested. If this is confusing, please feel free to tell me.

So this is what you start off with:


First cuts:

After taking in (if necessary)..
-Cut the body to the length you want your shrug to be, then cut the front parts at a curve that barely meets the bottom of your shrug at the sides.
-The sleeves are up to you.
-I'll explain the collar & neckline later, but at this time you may cut the collar at the crease if you wish.
**Remember to add seam allowances!**

This is what you should have so far:

I left the collar on at this time just for Daisy Duke kicks. 


Hem the bottom & sleeves.


If you haven't already, cut the collar at the crease. Fold it to the inside & hem only up to where the back piece of the garment meets the front piece.


This is my favorite part. Put on your shrug & fold in the remainder of the collar to how you want the finished product to look (use the result of the previous step as a guide). Pin in place, take it off & hem.


& ta da! Your shrug/bolero/boobie holder is complete.

I call it cute. Funny isn't it, but in arts & crafts our mistakes (and what we do with them) often lead to more interesting results than our perfectly executed plans do.

Re the difference between a shrug and a bolero: I may be wrong, but I wonder if there is any difference. I've started to think the fashion people keep resurrecting the same things and calling them by new names: one generation's "divided skirt" is another's "culottes" is another's "gauchos" is another's "split skirt".

As per www.expressfashion. com and www.forever21.com... this would be considered a shrug:

From googling.. seems that a bolero may be more like a jacket, while a shrug is a little on the lighter side.  You might wear a Bolero on the colder days and a shrug when it's warmer.

Here are some definitions: 

Bolero
short small jacket with rounded front corners.
